AMS has developed a number of highly creative programs which offer music, dance and cultural education. The goal of these programs is not just to educate but to touch and deeply inspire participants with the power of creative experience and the richness and beauty of culture and musical instruments from the far-east.

These programs are highly adaptable to meet the specific needs of target audiences. The lecture-demonstration on Taiwanese culture and music has been offered to kindergartens in rural Idaho, to an auditorium full of humanities students at the University of Illinois, for at-risk high school students near Boston and as a master class at the renowned ethnomusicology program of professor Theodore Levine at Dartmouth College.

AMS can offer educational programs as stand-alone events, in conjunction with a concert or as a weeklong residency. AMS specializes in working with presenters to creative and customize programs that will offer the most benefit for program participants.

This lecture-demonstration is co-facilitated by AMS directors Mia and Scott with help from AMS members who demonstrate their instruments using traditional pieces. A discussion of Taiwanese culture and customs is interspersed with beautiful video of Taiwan’s lush nature and exciting capital city, Taipei. General knowledge about Taiwan is brought to life with beautiful footage of floating lanterns and interesting cultural traditions ranging from ...

This lecture-demonstration goes in to greater depth concerning the history of the traditional instruments played by A Moving Sound’s musicians such as erhu, zhong ruan and Taiwanese percussion. We also discuss the technical and programmatic differences between music from the Far East, which is often designed to a company a theatrical performance, as compared to Western music which is composed as an entity ...

Mia Hsieh, the main vocalist for AMS, has created an introduction to Tai Chi that blends the flow and creativity of dance with Tai Chi practices. She can also present the workshop on advanced level for university dance departments, for example when AMS performed at the Chicago World Music Festival she ...

Our voice is one of our most important as well as most intimate tools for self-expression.  In modern urban life, many of us have lost our connection to Nature and to our own creativity.  This workshop draws from Mia’s experience with both western and traditional eastern vocal styles and offers an exciting and stimulating new experience for university theater or dance departments. Through breathing practice, voice and movement ...

These concerts are designed for a younger audience and so there is more talking and explanation than a formal concert. We select more interactive pieces from our repertoire to create an experience that is both educational and very fun for younger audiences. Students will learn a phrase in Taiwanese “come lets rush to the market” that they will shout out during the song, ...

A Moving Sound will work with the university or institution to create an extended need-specific program depending on the level of the participants and the targeted departments. AMS will work intensively with students to create a powerful creative experience of both art and culture. AMS will offer multiple programs throughout the day as well as opportunities for students to relax and dialogue with AMS ...
