Silk Road

Silk Road

The fable of the Silk Road describes a princess traveling this legendary route from east to west offering her hand in marriage to unite two empires. A Moving Sound began with Scott and Mia meeting in New York City and continuing to Taipei. The meditative pulse of the song underscores their trust in a transpersonal, universal creative process and a faith that making art and life is ultimately a surrender to something higher. The evocative wind instrument called “Chun” can be heard in this song, it’s a bit like a portable pipe organ.

Ku Chin

Ku Chin

The inspiration for this song is the Ku Chin, an ancient Chinese stringed instrument placed on a table and traditionally played solo for meditative purposes. Scott uses a non-traditional three string tuning system on the bass guitar and a sliding technique to give a feeling of the Ku Chin. In concert Mia accompanies this song with a show stopping martial arts dance incorporating a fan which most people didn’t realize could also be used as a weapon. She transitions from demurely classical Chinese Nan Guan singing to whirling martial artist in the blink of an eye.

Ganesh

Ganesh

Ganesh is the elephant God of the Hindu religion that breaks through all obstacles. When creativity and spirit meet, nothing can stand in the way! We borrowed a Shruti Box (a kind of electronic tamboura) and some of the taste of our Indian neighbors to compose this song.

The Market Song

The Market Song

The Taiwanese lyrics of this song “Guan Gin Lie Chue Chi Lo” mean “c’mon everyone let’s get up and get ready for a days’ work”. The words carry a sense of optimism and determination that say a lot about the Taiwanese character. Through sheer determination and hard work Taiwan emerged as one of the leading economic and cultural centers in Asia. This song begins with and features the suona horn which is loud enough to be played unamplified in parades and funerals! In this video we are being filmed for Lonely Planet’s “Six Degrees” which will be on the Discovery Channel.

Rain Forest

Rain Forest

Dozens of children join Mia dancing in a Philippine Island Arts festival while the group plays A Moving Sound's joyful celebration song at Taipei's beautiful Red Theater. Taiwan has a geographical meridian running through it which says North Taiwan is sub-tropical, South is tropical, but everybody knows it's all pretty hot!
